Welcome to Cryptocurrency Research Conference 2020

Call for Papers

The Centre for Digital Finance, University of Southampton and the ICMA Centre is delighted to invite you to the 3rd Cryptocurrency Research Conference 2020, to be held virtually on 14-15 September 2020.

This event will bring together an international group of academics conducting research in finance and related disciplines, as well as practitioners and policy makers to generate debates on current issues of cryptocurrencies and digital finance. This conference provides a forum for presenting new ideas, and discussing the future direction of cryptocurrency research.

This event is the third edition of this conference, and last year CRC 2019 (15th-16th June 2019, University of Southampton) welcomed 70 delegates from 42 institutions from Australia, USA, Japan, India, China, EU and UK. This is the largest, niche conference in cryptocurrency and Fintech area, and we look forward to welcome you in our community of digital finance scholars.


Keynote Speakers

Professor Douglas Cumming

Douglas Cumming, J.D., Ph.D., CFA, is the DeSantis Distinguished Professor of Professor of Finance and Entrepreneurship at the College of Business, Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida, and a Visiting Professor of Finance at Birmingham Business School, University of Birmingham.

Douglas has published over 175 articles in leading refereed academic journals in entrepreneurship, finance, management, and international business, such as the Academy of Management Journal, British Journal of Management, Economic Journal, Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Review of Financial Studies, and the Journal of International Business Studies.  Douglas has published 18 academic books.  Douglas’ work has been reviewed in numerous media outlets, including The New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and The New Yorker.

Dr Sean Foley

Senior Lecturer in Finance at the University of Sydney, Australia. Dr Foley is a leading academic in the area of cryptocurrencies and the author of “Sex, Drugs and Bitcoin: How Much Illegal Activity Is Financed Through Cryptocurrencies?” in the Review of Financial Studies. Current projects include understanding the determinants of fees on transaction inclusion time, identifying fraudulent ICO’s and understanding the structure of these developing markets.

Sean has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Empirical Finance and the Journal of Futures Markets, as well as co-authoring an FCA Occasional Paper.

Panel session Academics VS Practitioners: Future of Cryptocurrencies

If you would like to participate in panel sessionas a practitioner or academic expert, please express your interest toconference organisers.

Paper Submission

Authors are invited to submit their full papers in English and in PDF format no later than 30th June 2020 by email to CryptocurrencyRC@gmail.com. Submitted manuscripts will be peer-reviewed and no submission fee is required. For PhD students, please indicate your student status when submitting the paper. 


Special Issues

The European Journal of Finance invites conference participants to submit their paper for consideration for a special issue on the theme “Cryptocurrency market dynamics and trading opportunities”. Please note that if there is excess demand for the special issue then some papers could be considered for a regular issue of the European Journal of Finance instead. The guest editors for the special issue will be Dr Larisa Yarovaya (University of Southampton) and Dr Andrew Urquhart (University of Reading).

All papers will be double blind refereed in the usual way. Authors should submit their work to via the journal’s website.

There is a submission fee of £125.00. Submitted articles should be consistent with the aims and scope of the journal. The opening date for the special issue is 1st November 2020. Please do not submit for the special issue before that date and the closing date for submissions is 22nd January 2021.

Research in International Business and Finance invites conference participants to submit their paper for consideration for a special issue on the theme “ICOs, privacy and ethical issues of cryptocurrencies”. Please note that if there is excess demand for the special issue then some papers could be considered for a regular issue of Research in International Business and Finance. The guest editors for the special issue will be Dr Paraskevi Katsiampa (University of Sheffield), Dr Athanasios Sakkas, (University of Nottingham) and Dr Richard McGee (University College Dublin).

All papers will be double blind refereed in the usual way. Authors should submit their work to via the journal’s website.

There is a submission fee of $100. Submitted articles should be consistent with the aims and scope of the journal. The opening date for the special issue is 1st November 2020. Please do not submit for the special issue before that date and the closing date for submissions is 22nd January 2021.

Venue

The CRC2020 will be held in Microsoft Teams on 14th and 15th September 2020. To allow authors from different geographical locations to present, the sessions will be arranged in two different time slots, suitable for presenters from different regions. Keynote speeches and panel session will be scheduled at most convenient times.
