The Centre for Digital Finance, University of Southampton, and the ICMA Centre, University of Reading, is delighted to invite you to the 4th Cryptocurrency Research Conference (CRC2021), to be held virtually on 16th and 17th September 2021 on Microsoft Teams.
This event will bring together an international group of academics conducting research in finance and related disciplines, as well as practitioners and policy makers to generate debates on current issues of cryptocurrencies and decentralized finance. This conference provides a forum for presenting new ideas, and discussing the future direction of cryptocurrency research.
This event is the 4th edition of this conference, and last year the CRC2020 (14th-15th September 2020, virtual) attracted 200 registered participants and 48 presenters from around the globe. Please check website to see last year’s programme: https://cryptorc.wordpress.com/

Keynote Speaker for CRC2021
Professor Carol Alexander
Professor of Finance at Sussex University, UK, and Co-Editor of the Journal of Banking and Finance, and a Visiting Professor at Peking University HSBC Business School. She publishes widely on a broad range of topics, including: volatility theory; option pricing and hedging; trading volatility; hedging with futures; alternative investments; random orthogonal matrix simulation; game theory and real options. She has written and edited numerous books in mathematics and finance and published extensively in top-ranked international journals. Her four-volume textbook on Market Risk Analysis (Wileys, 2008) is the definitive guide to the subject. Her latest interests focus on Blockchain and Cryptocurrencies and her recent edited book (with Douglas Cumming, FAU — Wileys, May 2020) has over 600 pages about Corruption and Fraud in Financial Markets. Professor Campbell R. Harvey
Professor of Finance at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina and a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He served as President of the American Finance Association in 2016 and as Editor of the Journal of Finance from 2006-2021. Harvey has also been a visiting scholar at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. He has published over 150 scholarly articles on topics spanning investment finance, emerging markets, corporate finance, behavioural finance, financial econometrics and computer science. He was recently named 2020 Quant of the Year by the Journal of Portfolio Management and #1 Global Top Voice for finance and the economy by LinkedIn. Over the past seven years, Professor Harvey has taught Innovation and Cryptoventures which focuses on decentralized finance and blockchain technology. His book DeFi and the Future of Finance will be published by John Wiley and Sons in 2021. (Learn more)
Panel session Academics VS Practitioners: Future of Cryptocurrencies
Our annual interactive session containing academic and non-academic speakers. Panellists for the Cryptocurrency Research Conference 2021: Brian Lucey (Trinity College Dublin), Sofia Johan (Florida Atlantic University), John Goodell (University of Akron), among others, and invited practitioners will be announced closer to the conference dates.
Authors are invited to submit their papers (or extended abstracts) in English and in PDF format no later than 31 July 2021 by email to CryptocurrencyRC@gmail.com. Submitted manuscripts will be peer-reviewed and no submission fee is required. For PhD students, please indicate your student status when submitting the paper.

Journal Special Issue
Emerging Markets Review invites conference participants to submit their paper for consideration for a special issue on the theme “Fintech adoption and Financial Inclusion: cryptocurrencies and beyond”. There is a submission fee of US$ 75. Submitted articles should be consistent with the aims and scope of the journal. The opening date for the special issue is 1st November 2021. Please do not submit for the special issue before that date and the closing date for submissions is 30 January 2022.

Emerging Markets Review is the premier vehicle for publishing high impact empirical and theoretical studies in emerging markets finance. Preference will be given to comparative studies that take global and regional perspectives, detailed single country studies that address critical policy issues and have significant global and regional implications, and papers that address the interactions of national and international financial architecture. We especially welcome papers that take institutional as well as financial perspectives.
The CRC2021 will be held in Microsoft Teams Live on 16th and 17th September 2021. The registration link will be available via this website. To allow authors from different geographical locations to present, the sessions will be arranged in two different time slots, suitable for presenters from different regions. Keynote speech and panel sessions will be scheduled at most convenient time.
